1Go to the right project hub
From the Main Page, scroll down to Project Categories and click the category that best fits your project — for example, Projects/Audio for music or sound work, or Projects/Software for code. Each hub is a page listing all projects in that category.
💡 Not sure which category fits? Pick the closest one. Projects can belong to multiple categories — you'll set this in the form. If the correct category doesn't exist, don't worry - simply reach out to a staff member to create the category for you.
2Click the orange "+ Submit" button
At the top of every hub page, in the toolbar row, you'll see an orange + Submit button. Click it. This opens the project submission form.
Step 1 of 4Next: Fill the Form →
1Enter a project name
Type your project's name in the Project Name field at the top. This becomes part of the page URL and the title shown on the hub card. Keep it clear and concise — for example, My Ambient Album or OpenRPG Toolkit.
⚠️ The name you enter here becomes the page title. Choose carefully — renaming later is possible but takes a couple of extra steps.
2Select your categories
Tick all categories that apply to your project. A project can belong to multiple categories — for example, a music game could be both Audio and Games. Your project will appear on all selected hub pages.
3Set the status and license
Choose a Status (Active, Hiatus, Completed, or Abandoned) and a License. If you're unsure which license to use, CC-BY-SA 4.0 is the wiki default and a safe choice for most creative work. For software, consider GPL-3.0 or MIT. See Project:Licenses for a full comparison.
💡 Try to remember to update the status of the project as your interest and participation in the project change. Staff members may update a project status if they deem that it has been abandoned.
4Fill in the remaining fields
Fill in Creator / Team, Short Description (shown on the hover card — keep it to 1–2 sentences), Tags (space-separated keywords like ambient synth dark), and optionally a Website and Repository link. The Extra Fields 1–4 are optional custom fields — for example, a DAW name, programming language, or game engine. Leave them blank if you don't need them.
← BackStep 2 of 4Next: Add a Cover Image →
1Upload your image first
Before you can set a cover image, it needs to be uploaded to the wiki. In a new browser tab, go to Special:Upload. Choose your file, give it a clear name (e.g. MyProjectCover.png), select a license, and click Upload file.
💡 Recommended size: at least 600×400px. PNG or JPG both work. Keep the file size reasonable — under 2MB is ideal.
2Copy the exact filename
After uploading, the file page will show the exact filename at the top — for example, MyProjectCover.png. Copy this exactly, including the file extension. If the image was already uploaded by someone else, go to Special:Search, search for the image name, and find the exact filename from its file page.
3Paste the filename into the Cover Image field
Back on the submission form, paste the filename (just the name — no File: prefix needed) into the Cover Image field. For example:
MyProjectCover.png. The image will appear on your project card on the hub page automatically.⚠️ Do not upload images you don't have the rights to share. All images must be openly licensed or your own original work.
← BackStep 3 of 4Next: Submit →
1Click "Submit Project"
Scroll to the bottom of the form and click the Submit Project button. MediaWiki will create your project page automatically and add it to the hub.
2Your card appears on the hub
Go back to the hub page (e.g. Projects/Audio) and your project card should appear. It shows your cover image, name, status badge, license, creator, and description on hover. If you don't see it immediately, wait 30 seconds and refresh — the database updates in the background.
💡 The contributor count and last-edited date on your card will populate within a minute of the page loading.
3Edit your project page
Your project now has its own wiki page at
Projects/YourProjectName. Click on the card title to visit it, then click Edit to add more content — a full description, screenshots, links, credits, and anything else that tells your project's story. The page is yours to build out at your own pace.
